The u3a is a members-run charity for people who are no longer in full-time work, whether they’ve retired or work part time. There’s no upper or lower age limit. Yateley & District u3a has more than 60 interest groups, so there’s plenty to try.
Members also meet once a month for a talk. For example, on Thursday 5 November 2026 author Bobbie Darbyshire will talk about how writers create characters, places and plots. The meeting runs from 10.30am to noon at Sandhurst Community Hall, and entry is £1.
Membership costs £12 a year. You can join online, or pay by card at a monthly meeting. Find out more on the Yateley & District u3a website.
The Yateley Society
The Yateley Society is a local charity that works to protect and improve life in Yateley, Frogmore and Darby Green. It runs a programme of talks and events, which are open to members and non-members alike. It also researches the town’s history and keeps a close eye on local planning applications.
If you’d rather be outdoors, the Society holds monthly conservation working parties with the Yateley Rangers. These take place at spots such as Yateley Common, Cricket Hill Pond and Castle Bottom. Meanwhile, its Toad Patrol volunteers keep watch on toads and other amphibians as they move around the town.
The Society’s AGM and members’ meeting is on 5 November, from 7.30pm to 9pm. Visit The Yateley Society website for the venue and to join.
Hands-on and volunteering clubs in Yateley
Yateley Men’s Shed
Yateley Men’s Shed opened in 2017 with support from Yateley Town Council, and it’s now a registered charity. Members work on woodwork projects, share skills and, just as importantly, stop for a cup of tea. Despite the name, women are welcome too.
Members make their own pieces, as well as items for craft fairs. They also take on commissions such as bird boxes, hedgehog houses and bird tables, and they repair garden benches and furniture. You don’t need any experience, because members of every skill level are welcome.
The Shed is across the car park from Yateley Village Hall on Old School Lane (GU46 6NG). It’s open on weekdays from 9.30am to 2pm, and on Monday evenings from 7pm to 9pm. Membership is open to anyone aged 18 or over. It costs £72 a year, plus £1 a visit to cover tea, power and waste. See the Yateley Men’s Shed website for details.

Yateley Repair Cafe
At the Repair Cafe, volunteers try to fix broken household items, so they don’t end up in the bin. It runs on the second Saturday of every month, from 10am to 1pm, at the community hub at Yateley Industries (reception at the rear). The last repair starts at noon.
The Repair Cafe is one of the Yateley Society’s projects. So if you’re good at mending things and would like to help, get in touch through the Society’s website.
Yateley & District Lions
The Lions organise some of the town’s biggest events, including the Fireworks Fiesta, the Christmas Market and the May Fayre. Joining is a good way to meet people while raising money for local causes. The Yateley & District Lions website explains how to get involved.
Yateley & Yateley Green WI
The Yateley & Yateley Green WI offers talks and speakers, craft and exercise classes, and outings for members. Several of its regular groups meet at the WI Hall:
